BEHIND THE VOICE – Published in the Sunday Telegraph Review – 2004
HEART AND SOUL , World Service, Wednesdays 10.45 -11am – June 2004 (Presented and Produced this series)
Clare Catford
Describe your show in five words:
does faith make you happier?
Best broadcasting moment: Interviewing a Holocaust survivor and being moved to tears by his ability to forgive his tormentors
And the most embarrassing? Being a Christmas fairy in the New Forest for GMTV
Dream guest? God, whoever she is.
Broadcasting heroes? Sheena Macdonald, Jon Snow and Brian Redhead
Tell us something about yourself that your listeners don’t know:
I am a nervous scuba diver
First radio memory? Listening to Capital’s Anna and the Doc on Wednesday nights on my tinny radio aged 13
If I hadn’t been a radio presenter I’d have been……a fabulous contemporary jazz dancer in the West End of London wearing a sparkly costume and doing the splits with ease.
This series was the ‘Radio Choice’ of the week in the Sunday Telegraph, the Daily Mail and the Scotsman.
PRESS GAZETTE – 2002
‘In a move to make (BBC London’s breakfast show) ‘more newsy’, Clare Catford, with a background in consumer journalist on both TV and radio, has moved from the station’s lunchtime show to the Breakfast programme. The sole presenter on the show, a first among morning programmes, Catford believes she has the right ‘no-nonsense’ approach to interview the ministers and business chiefs about the issues Londoners are about.’
