I bought this book less than 24 hours ago and I've just finished it - it's impossible to put down...Don't worry, you don't have to be holy to read it. It's thought-provoking, but not in a pious way. Give it a go!

I loved this book! As well as being a great page turner, the book is a fantastic example of change, growth and hope. It's a must for anyone whose life has been touched by addiction. This book is a moving and honest account of one woman's triumph over addictions during which the author describes her struggles with her own life consuming habits, and takes the reader on a helter-skelter ride of emotions.

The book is also for those who have felt hope when a loved one started to recover from addiction, and then had their hopes cruelly dashed as the old behaviour resurfaced. This is a beacon of hope for all who have felt the pain of watching a loved one suffer. I thoroughly recommend it.

By Adrianna Irvine (London)

Finally a book that bridges the gap between self-help, self-diagnosis & autobiography. This book is profoundly rewarding & should be on academic reading lists as a guide to the real world & of what to expect in real relationships. It may seem to appeal to a specific audience but the audience is anyone who has ever fallen 'in love' & tried to work at a relationship with themselves & others. Adrianna Irvine Psychotherapist

By A. Woodcock-clarke "Academic Journalist" (London, UK)

This is a wonderful book, part guidebook, part routemap, part travelogue, of the spritual journey we take through life and love - and recover from their side-effects. It's practical and poetic, wise and witty. On the face of it, it may seem targeted to a niche market but I personally think it has something to say to everyone at large. In itself, it's an excellent 'rehab' book - but it's also so much more. Read it!

clare catford book excerpt

‘ADDICTED TO LOVE?’ How to break out of obsession and move towards freedom; one woman’s struggle to beat her own life-threatening addictions and have a relationship with herself, with God and with other human beings.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
To fall in love, isn’t that what we all desire? But what happens when love turns to obsession, or if the object of our affection is already married, abusive or simply emotionally unavailable?

Why do some of us find ourselves in relationships that appear to be addictive? And how can we heal and recover? Why do some of us compulsively pursue one partnership after another, without pausing for breath, believing that once we find ‘the one’ our lives will be complete? Journalist and broadcaster Clare Catford describes, with searing honesty, her own struggles with love addiction and chronicles how she has begun to find release by re-evaluating and re-building her faith,

This book is for anyone who has struggled with love and sexual obsession. Letting go and letting God is perhaps one of the biggest challenges facing all of us in a society that thrives on the quick sexual fix and the belief that romantic love will conquer all.

This book explores what it means to develop intimacy with ourselves and with God; and details the often painful process involved in discovering a true freedom that comes when at last we find peace of mind.
